Yakima parks host family-friendly movies, concerts through July & August


YAKIMA, Wash. — School’s out, the sun is shining and families across Yakima are looking for things to do. Why not enjoy a movie or concert in the park?

The City of Yakima is hosting family-friendly outdoor movie screenings and several concert series spanning the middle of the summer. Parks & Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson says the city is excited to welcome community members back for these beloved annual events.

“The idea is to encourage families to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the free concerts and films outdoors,” Wilkinson said. “The community is invited to relax and listen to great music or watch family films in a beautiful park.”

Starting July 10, Chesterley Park (N 40th Ave between River Rd and Powerhouse Rd) will host the Outdoor Summer Cinema Series every Sunday for a month and a half. The movies will start at sunset, which Yakima park officials expect to be around 8:30 p.m. each week. Their schedule and featured films are as follows:

  • July 10: Clifford the Big Red Dog
  • July 17: Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • July 24: Spirit Untamed
  • July 31: Field of Dreams
  • Aug. 7: Spider-Man: No Way Home
  • Aug. 14: Encanto

Franklin Park (2101 Tieton Drive) is home to the Summer Sunset Concert Series every week from approx. 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PST. The scheduled dates and acts are listed below:

  • July 8: DieBruder (classic rock)
  • July 15: Under the Covers (80s/90s rock)
  • July 22: Red Light Challenge (alternative/indie pop)
  • July 29: Camille Bloom (folk rock)
  • Aug. 5: American Honey Band (country/rock)
  • Aug. 12: Spiced Rye (Americana)

Miller Park (N 4th St and East E St) will host the Viva La Musica concert series each Sunday for three weeks from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. PST. The scheduled dates and acts are listed below:

  • July 10: Los del RegioCalentano
  • July 17: Super Escandalo
  • July 24: Banda la Palmera

Viva La Musica will then move to Martin Luther King Jr. Park (South 8th St and E Beech St) for the next several weeks:

  • July 31: Explosion Musical
  • Aug. 7: Rebeldes de la Sierra
  • Aug.14: Los de Alla

The concert series will culminate on September 11, 2022 at Miller Park with concerts by Adventureros Musical Los Nuevos Coyotes and Los Hermanos Arroyo.
