Yakima police arrest suspect in Subway armed robbery
YAKIMA, Wash. — A Yakima man was arrested for allegedly robbing a Subway sandwich shop at gunpoint on Sunday night.
Casimiro Gutierrez, 26, was arrested Monday at a house in the 1100 block of South 8th Street around 8 p.m.
In a news release, police said Gutierrez confessed to robbing the Subway on 40th Avenue and leaving in a getaway car driven by his brother, 22-year-old Omar Gutierrez.
Yakima Police Sgt. Joe Salinas spotted the car a few blocks away from the crime scene and conducted a traffic stop.
Once the vehicle pulled over, Casimiro got out and ran away on foot, ignoring Salinas’ commands to stop.
Salinas fired a single shot at the suspect with his patrol rifle and missed, allowing the suspect to get away. Omar was arrested at the scene.
As a result of firing his weapon, he has been put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, which is standard policy for the department.
