Yakima police K9 Zorro bites felony warrant suspect who led officers on high-speed chase

Several Yakima County based law enforcement agencies came together to chase down a felony warrant suspect early Tuesday morning, and they’re giving major credit to one police K9 for getting the job done.

According to the Moxee Police Department, around 12:40 a.m. officers tried to arrest 34-year-old James Reno for his felony warrants during a traffic stop.

Reno then ran away from officers, inciting a foot pursuit, before running back to his vehicle and leading officers on a high-speed chase.

Officers say Reno then wrecked his car near the 100 block of Birchfield Road, and fled on foot again.

Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies, Yakima police, Selah police, and Washington State Patrol responded to help find Reno.

Yakima police K9 Zorro was “vital” in apprehending Reno, Moxee police said.

Reno is currently awaiting surgery at a local hospital for bite wounds, and is expected to be booked into the Yakima County Jail for his felony warrant and new charges.
