Yakima Valley College helping deaf students succeed
YAKIMA, Wash. — A local college is helping out deaf students succeed in their education.
Yakima Valley College offers American Sign Language as a foreign language, but what most people don’t know is what the college offers to its deaf students.
YVC offers tutors to their deaf students and helps them pursue a higher education, with the idea of helping them reach their goal just as any other student.
Jennifer Hopper is the ASL Tutor Coordinator at YVC and said she has goals for all of the students.
“I would like them all to obtain gradation, to obtain a degree and to go even further than an Associate’s Degree,” said Hooper.
This Sunday is also World Hearing Day, which is a day to raise awareness on deafness and hearing loss.
