Yakima’s drive-thru Holiday Light Fest returns with new displays

YAKIMA, Wash. — The 3rd Annual Holiday Light Fest opens the day after Thanksgiving at State Fair Park, featuring more than 30 miles of strung lights, food and beverages and drive-thru light displays.

“If [anything’s] gonna get you in the Christmas spirit, it’s seeing lights and festivities and just, you know, bringing the joy of Christmas to the Valley,” said Kathy Kramer, Central Washington State Fair President and CEO.

Kramer said the event started in 2020 as a way to bring holiday cheer to the community, while many other events had to be postponed or cancelled due to the pandemic and COVID-19 restrictions.

Since the event has gained in popularity every year, Kramer said they’ve been happy to keep bringing it back. This year’s display features three new vignettes, including Santa’s Christmas Eve, 12 Days of Christmas and the Enchanted Forest.

The Holiday Light Fest kicks off the day after Thanksgiving and runs Thursday through Sunday until Dec. 18., with the exception of Saturday, Nov. 26. Drivers can start lining up at 4:30, but the event goes from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Over the weekend, tickets are $15 per vehicle or $30 per limo, bus or RV for general admission. People wanting to skip the line can purchase a fast pass at $20 per vehicle or $50 per limo, bus or RV.

On Thursday, discounted admission is available at $10 for general admission and $20 for a fast pass. People can also get free admission on Thursday, Dec. 8 by bringing a new, unwrapped toy —suggested value of $10 or more — to donate to the Yakima Salvation Army.

The event will also be donating a portion of paid admission on Sunday, Dec. 11th to Yakima Valley Pet Rescue to support rescued animal needs and adoptions.
